Assignment #8- Data Sets

a) The name of the data set link I chose is 25,000 Records of Human Heights (in) and Weights (lbs) and is under "Population Data"
b)The data set contain a Growth Survey of 25,000 children from birth to 18 years of age, obtained from Maternal and Child Health Centers. It has the weight an height of the 25,000 children.
c)The thing that we needed to understand from the data set was: How does weight relate to height and age?  

Assingment 7- SOCR Website

After playing around with the website I found the "Distributions" tab interesting. What I liked about this function is that you can see how a distribution graph will look like if the mean or standard deviation change and you can also see how a variety of different distributions look like by choosing them from the list under SOCR Distributions.
This feature will be useful in the classroom because it gives us an example of what the different distributions look like under different conditions, like an increase in the mean or standard deviation.

Assignment # 6- Elections

How: by getting almost a million more votes than Meg Whitman


The source was not entirely accurate because only 86% of the results were reported for their calculations, the other 14% could have made a difference


Additionally the source had percentages for race, sex and income of voters who voted Republican and Democrat but I don't see how this could help the original report because they only  used percentages and not the total amount of voters which could have helped us figure out the real amount of people who voted for each candidate.


My only concern with this data is that only 86% of the actual data was taken into account. This could have lead to some bias to a candidate since not all the data is taken into account; maybe Meg Whitman had an advantage in the resting 14% of the data.

Assignment #5- Pairing up

The three people I would consider working with are Sarah, Carlos and Raul.

 Sarah is a hard worker and always has a positive attitude and a smile on her face. 

 Carlos has a nice personality and is responsible so I know I could rely on him if we were to do a group project.

 Raul understands the material and is not afraid to ask questions so he would be help me understand the concepts. 

Assignment #4- The Book's Website

1. my favorite part about the website was that it breaks up the chapters and has a quiz for every chapter. to take the quiz all you need to do is click on "online quizzes" which is under student resources and register. Registering was pretty easy, just write down your email and teacher's email.
 The "Statistical Applets" was another helpful application of this website because it explains the purpose of different data and how its used.
The statistics on the web was very helpful as well because it gives you external links and shows what statistics is being used in out in the real world

Assignment #3- Correlation

1. Correlation is important because it shows the relationship between two variables and how strong this relationship is. From a positive correlation we can see that both variables increase at the same time. From a negative correlation we see that one variable decreases as the other increases.

2. Correlation and regression has helped my life so far by showing me the relationship between homework and grades, they increase mutually :)

3.Correlations that have made an impact on my life are the amount of time i spend on fb v. the amount of work i get done because ice seen that the more time i spend on fb the less work i get done :/

2nd Blog Assignment: Assessment Reflection

1. For the first quiz I studied a my notes. For the test i just did my homework the night before.
2. I would have liked to have gone to tutoring or have a little study group so we could have cleared questions we might have had.
3. I did all my homework the night before it was due... big mistake!
4. I do believe my scores are justified, it was the first AP stats test I ever took, and I needed to familiarize myself with the format.

1st Blog Assignment!

A set of data that could be collected sing the class population could be how many hours of internet we use per week. I chose this topic because it involves numerical values and a box plot would be good to represent the results. I think most people would answer they use the internet around 5 hours per week. The distribution would most likely be symmetrical.
